Today we read Bob's Toolbox Mix-up by Kiki Thorpe and talked more about building. Then we created our own tools and tool belts, so we could be just like Bob!

This week's theme is "Kid's Choice." We asked the students what they would be interested in learning more about, and got quite an assortment of answers! So here are our tentative themes for the week:
Mon, Tues: Building Weds: Bears Thurs: Camping Fri: Zombies Click Here for more detailed lesson plans Today we looked at a non-fiction book called People in the Rain Forest by Saviour Pirotta, and talked about what it would be like to live in a rainforest. What if Kozy Heart was in a building made of palm leaves (called a maloca)?? We also sampled some food that would grow in a rain forest area- pineapple, mango, and banana.
We are still collecting cans in our classroom! We're trying to save up with the kids and then use our earnings to purchase something AWESOME (and educational) for our classroom. Thank you so much for the donations this far!!
Kozy Heart Moms are invited to join us on Friday, 5/11 for Muffins for Moms from 7:30-8:30am. We hope to see you there! This week we're learning all about the rainforest! We started yesterday by reading The Umbrella by Jan Brett. We made rainforest animal puppets and practiced putting on our own little show.
Today we read Rainforest and made clay snakes. This weeks literacy stations are: lowercase & uppercase letter match, beginning sounds, and sight word build. Our math stations this week are: missing numbers, number order, and pattern block challenge. We learned all about Cinco de Mayo and made our own mini pinatas today. Then, we realized that today's date had a special significance..."May the fourth (force) be with you!" Star Wars day!! We were so excited that we could hardly wait to make Star Wars cards! Check them out:
The rain didn't keep us from having fun while learning all about stegasaurus dinosaurs! After our reading and writing centers we read a story called, Can I Have a Stegasaurus, Please?. We decided that a stegasaurus would be a better pet than a t-rex, since a t-rex is a carnivore and might try to eat us.
We also spent time using our pasta fossil sensory bin, building dinosaur caves, and molding dinosaur shapes with play-doh. In the afternoon we worked on math stations including dinosaur size sorting, matching, and dino lacing. We even made our own dinosaur fossils with mud and a few kitchen supplies! |
